Amboseli, Aberdare, Samburu & Masai Mara Safari

Overview

An 11-day circuit of Kenya’s great parks from Nairobi: Amboseli beneath Kilimanjaro, a night at The Ark in the Aberdares, the Samburu Special Five, Ol Pejeta Conservancy, the flamingos and rhinos of Lake Nakuru and two days in the Masai Mara.

   Day 1

   Nairobi

   Your Silvadri Safaris driver guide will warmly meet you on arrival at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport and transfer you to your hotel. After check-in we brief you on what will hopefully be your best holiday in Kenya. Overnight at the hotel on bed and breakfast.

   Day 2

   Nairobi – Amboseli National Park

   • Amboseli

   Enjoy breakfast, then we drive you to Amboseli National Park, arriving at the camp or lodge for check-in and lunch. Amboseli is great for a Kenya safari. Enjoy an afternoon game viewing drive. Varied wildlife includes giraffes, zebras, elephants, cheetahs and hundreds of bird species. The western section is dominated by vast Lake Amboseli, which is dry outside the rainy season. Later return to the camp or lodge for dinner and overnight.

   Day 3

   Amboseli National Park

   Enjoy an early morning game viewing drive, then return to the camp or lodge for breakfast. Mid-morning is at leisure. If the weather permits you will enjoy breathtaking views of snow-capped Mount Kilimanjaro: it is from Amboseli that some of the most captivating wildlife photos with Kilimanjaro in the background have been taken. Dinner and overnight at the camp or lodge.

   Day 4

   Amboseli – Aberdare National Park

   • Aberdare

   Enjoy breakfast, then depart with a packed lunch. We drive you via Nairobi to Aberdare National Park, arriving in the afternoon. You spend the night at The Ark Lodge, watching wildlife from the lodge balcony and the underground bunkers. Occasionally you will receive an alarm in your room at night when special animals come to the floodlit waterhole. Dinner and overnight at The Ark Lodge.

   Day 5

   Aberdare National Park – Samburu National Reserve

   • Samburu

   Enjoy an early breakfast, then proceed to Samburu National Reserve. You drive through the lush Kikuyu farmlands to the cool Kenyan highlands. Towards the Northern Frontier region we stop at the equator for a quick sightseeing stop. On a clear day you might be lucky to see Mount Kenya, the second highest mountain in Africa.

   We continue our journey and arrive at Samburu, where you check in at your lodge and have lunch. In the afternoon we go for a game drive in the reserve. This region is known for its unique wildlife and birdlife, the Special Five or Samburu Five: the Beisa Oryx, Reticulated Giraffe, Somali Ostrich, Gerenuk and Grevy’s Zebra.

   Samburu National Reserve lies on the banks of the Ewaso Ng’iro river, with Buffalo Springs National Reserve on the other side of the river. The reserve covers 165 km², 350 kilometres from Nairobi, at 800 to 1,230 m above sea level, in Samburu County. It was one of the two areas in which the conservationists George and Joy Adamson raised Elsa the lioness, made famous in the best-selling book and award-winning film Born Free.

   Samburu National Reserve

   An early morning game viewing drive to enjoy your African safari, then back to the lodge for breakfast. Mid-morning is at leisure. Enjoy lunch, then depart on an afternoon game viewing drive. Later return to the lodge for dinner and overnight.

   Day 7

   Samburu – Ol Pejeta Conservancy

   After breakfast we proceed to the 90,000-acre Ol Pejeta Conservancy, arriving at the camp for check-in and lunch. Enjoy an afternoon game viewing drive. The sanctuary is home to rehabilitated chimpanzees and is one of the best places to see the Big Five of Africa: lions, Cape buffalo, savanna elephant, leopard and rhinos. Hundreds of other wildlife species roam the savannah plains and grasslands. Dinner and overnight at the camp.

   Day 8

   Ol Pejeta Conservancy – Lake Nakuru National Park

   • Lake Nakuru

   Breakfast, then we drive you to Lake Nakuru National Park with a brief stop at the 74-metre Thomson’s Falls. We arrive at the lodge for check-in and lunch. Enjoy an afternoon game viewing drive: the park is famous for its abundant greater and lesser flamingos when the water level on the lake is low. Wildlife here includes lions, leopards and hyenas; Rothschild’s giraffes and black and white rhinos are also found here. Lake Nakuru is an ornithological paradise for bird lovers. Dinner and overnight at the lodge.

   Day 9

   Lake Nakuru National Park – Masai Mara National Reserve

   • Masai Mara

   Enjoy breakfast, then we proceed to the Masai Mara National Reserve, arriving at the camp for check-in and lunch. Proceed on an afternoon game viewing drive. Later return to the camp for dinner and overnight.

    Day 10

    Masai Mara National Reserve

    Enjoy breakfast, then depart with a packed lunch for a full day of game viewing drives. You can also opt for morning and afternoon game drives with a hot lunch at the lodge. This famous reserve is known around the world for the spectacular wildebeest migration from July to September each year, when over two million wildebeest and zebras migrate from Tanzania to Kenya, crossing the ruthless Mara River in search of green pastures. The abundant wildlife includes the Big Five of Africa. The reserve is surrounded by Maasai villages, and at a small extra cost you may want to make a cultural visit to one of them. Dinner and overnight at the camp.

    Day 11

    Masai Mara National Reserve – Nairobi

    Enjoy breakfast, then check out. We drive you back to Nairobi; alternatively, at an extra cost, you may opt for a one-hour scheduled light aircraft flight to Wilson Airport. If time allows you will enjoy lunch before our driver guide drops you at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport for your departure flight.
